Services

The Maywood Fire Department is tasked with responding to any and all fire, medical and emergency calls originating from within the Village of Maywood. In addition, the Department stands ready to provide assistance to other fire departments, as needed. The following are some of the important services the Department provides to the residents of Maywood.

Special Duty Calls
The Maywood Fire Department is trained to respond to Special Duty Calls, which include auto accidents, carbon monoxide detection, alarm malfunctions, and hazardous materials. The Department also provides assistance to the Maywood Police Department and responds to any other emergency calls that arise in the Village and beyond.

Fire Prevention
The Maywood Fire Department performs inspections of all non-residential buildings in town. Critical areas of concern include checking fire alarms, sprinkler systems, smoke detectors and evaluating the overall safety condition of the building. Inspections by the Department are done in conjunction with Code Enforcement. The Fire Inspector also works with contractors and builders on all new and remodeled construction.

Fire Safety Education
The Maywood Fire Department offers fire safety education to all schools, churches, day care centers, and block clubs. While this service is available to any group or organization within the Village, the Department's education efforts are concentrated on grade schools, kindergarten through third grade. Through its efforts, the Department has provided fire safety education to over 1,200 school-age children and senior citizens living within the community.

CERT (Citizen Emergency Response Team)
The Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) was developed after Sept. 11, 2001 under the Citizen's Corp Council program. The CERT program was developed to train citizens in disaster preparedness, basic/disaster fire suppression, basic medical operations, light search and rescue, and team operations and organization. It is meant to help prepare citizens to help themselves as well as neighbors in the event of a disaster where the "professional" responders are face with an overwhelming incident or due to debris blocking access routes to an affected area.

The CERT training is available online as IS-317 on the Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) website under training through the Emergency Management Institute (EMI).
